Earth's Supposedly Impenetrable Radiation Barrier Has Been Breached - ScienceAlert — Satellite discovers breach in Earth's inner radiation belt

Satellite data has revealed that Earth's inner radiation belt has been breached. The Arase satellite found electrons speeding up inside the Van Allen belt, which contradicts earlier ideas about the belt's protection. This could affect space weather and satellite operations. The data shows that killer electrons can break through a barrier believed to be impenetrable, so scientists need to update their models and safeguard satellites better.
